Volunteer Positions at the Biblioteca
Membership Development Coordinator PDF Imprimir Correo electrónico
The main function of this position is to increase and retain the Biblioteca’s membership base. Memberships provide critical operational funding, support for political and social purposes and are a source of volunteers and donors. This position can be conducted from home but requires some contact with Biblioteca staff.

1. The Membership Development Volunteer will produce and conduct creative programs or projects to enhance membership sales.

2. The Volunteer will ensure that there is a current and accurate membership brochure. When a new or updated one is required, arrange to produce it and/or additional brochures for specific purposes.

3. The Volunteer will also maintain an inventory of brochures and other documents needed to enhance membership and reorder another printing before supplies are depleted.

There are a number of volunteer positions that one can donate time to in the English book section of the Biblioteca.

Most of the positions require that you first and foremost enjoy working with books, old and new, have an eye for detail and can work well with others and sometimes you don’t mind working by your self.

Spanish Book Collection PDF Imprimir Correo electrónico

There are a number of volunteer positions that one can donate time to in the Spanish book section of the Biblioteca.

To be successful in this position a knowledge of Spanish would be great asset. Most of the positions require that you enjoy working with books, old and new, have an eye for detail and can work well with others and sometimes you don’t mind working by your self.

Time commitment varies on the position you choose.

Volunteer positions include:

Maintenance of “New Book Shelf”. Time commitment 1-3 hours per month

Sorting Donated Books. Time commitment 1-3 hours per week

Sorting Donated Magazines Time commitment 1-3 hours per month

Shelf Readers for various areas Time commitment 1-2 hours per week

Coordinator for Volunteers PDF Imprimir Correo electrónico

This position coordinates, recruits and administers the Biblioteca volunteers, matches volunteers with various positions and ensures volunteers are recognized. The Volunteer Coordinator develops and updates the Volunteer Manual and Volunteer Job Descriptions and maintains a Volunteer Time Log.

1. The Coordinator is the first point of contact for the volunteer. The various positions and options available are explained to the volunteer and they determine how much time and what sort of work the volunteer wishes to do. Each Volunteer must fill out an application form to be kept on file by Coordinator. The volunteer is then put into contact with the appropriate staff person or committee chair and given a copy of the volunteer manual and a job description. The staff /or committee chair person provides the direct training. The volunteer is shown the log book which should be filled in each time he/she works or goes to a committee meeting.

This work can be done at home but will require contact with the administration Staff at the Biblioteca to access lists and current membership information and brochures.

1. The Volunteer will contact staff at Biblioteca to obtain a current membership list for the month. The Volunteer should go once a month to the office and pick up the membership and renewal forms to check for accuracy on the list and note if anyone wishes to volunteer and advise the volunteer coordinator of this information.

2. The Volunteer will send an e-mail reminder letter (in the computer) to all members whose membership is up for renewal in the next month and remind them of the need to renew and how.

3. The Volunteer will also send an e-mail letter to all members that have lapsed in the last 3 months to ask them to renew (special letter in the computer).

4. If any of the e-mailed letters are returned by Mail Administrator, then the Volunteer will try to contact the member by phone using the directories to obtain new e-mail. Also they will take the opportunity to ask the member to renew.
